Mulberry Paper

Mulberry paper can be used to match pictures just as most any other scrapbook paper can be used. It has some unique characteristics which also allow it to be used in other ways as well.

The fibers that make up the basis of the paper go in all directions. This provides a scrapbooker or with some excellent opportunities to get truly creative.

Here are a few ideas to get you started.

  1. Tearing Mulberry paper is fun and easy and it offers an exciting alternative to ordinary picture matting. One of the tricks is to dampen the paper with water where you want to tear it.

You can also tear paper into a variety of shapes and strips to add dimension to your scrapbook pages. Consider making a flower out of different shades of Mulberry paper. Use Stickles (glitter for grown of ups) to create the center of the flower.

  2. Try folding Mulberry paper (and gluing the folds) to create artistic designs to embellish your scrapbook pages. You don't need to use a lot of glue or adhesive either.

  3. Rubberstamping on Mulberry paper creates an amazing effects. Try working with pigment inks, dye inks and even embossing powder to design your own personal scrapbook embellishments. Let your imagination run free.

  4. For a truly unusual effect, select a shape, pattern or alphabet letter and set it/them on a piece of Mulberry paper, then chalk around them. Liquid chalks and powdered chalks both work well for this.

It is fun to work with a variety of scrapbook papers and this type is wonderful for experimenting with different looks and designs. The texture is such a treat and adds so much to scrapbook pages. It makes a nice background paper as well, but it needs the added stability of cardstock behind it to make it work well.
