Scrapbook Embellishments Add More Than Just Texture
Scrapbook embellishments are a creative way to enhance a page's look. They add dimension, texture and originality, giving your memories a life of their own. If you have been in your local scrapbook store at all in the past few years, you know how "hot" embellishments are.
One of the things that makes scrapbooking so appealing is that it can be done in so many different ways. If you like to create simple pages with a few embellishments here and there, you can enjoy the craft just as much as someone who has a twenty page scrapbook that is 5 inches thick (from all the fibers, chipboard, charms, tags, rub-ons and chunky memorabilia inside).
Embellishments come in many shapes and sizes. They may be fun little decorative accents like stickers, buttons, brads, flowers or ribbons. Or, they can be a major focus of the page and include things such as metal frames, glass beads, chipboard letters, pinwheels, washers or binder clips. Can't find the right on for your page try making your own homemade embellishments using paper punches.
Why do people use scrapbook embellishments? Embellishments take scrapbooking to a whole new level. They add style, define personality and provide texture. They are visually appealing and help tell the story that the photos on the page are meant to convey.
We all like to use our 5 senses – and when some of those senses are unable to be used, the other senses become more aware of what is available. You cannot hear what is going on in the pictures on a scrapbook page. You are unable to smell the cookies baking or inhale the sweet perfume that grandma always wore. We look at the pages with our eyes and we imagine those details. Scrapbook embellishments give us another dimension with which to experience the moment the photo was taken.
Texture is real. We run our fingers over the fibers of a piece of ribbon as we look into the eyes of our children and it all comes alive again. A ticket stub to your daughter's first movie becomes a centerpiece in a story about growing up. A metal key is a reminder of the first car you ever bought and as you close your eyes and touch the key, you feel the awesome sensation of being in that car all over again.
Life becomes a bit more meaningful when we add dimension to it. Touch is a very vital part of that dimension.
Remember as a child when you went into a store with your mom and the first thing you heard as you crossed the threshold was "Don't touch a thing." Oh, sure, how many times have we said that to our own children? Ha! It is because we WANT TO TOUCH.
As you create your scrapbook pages, even if you do not like a lot of bulk, remember to add some texture with embellishments.
Scrapbook embellishments make scrapbooking a little more fun and a lot more interesting.
