Scrapbook Inspiration

Scrapbook inspiration comes from so many different people and places around us. Sometimes it is from a photograph, or reading a greeting card someone sent you. It could even be a room full of ribbon at your local scrapbook store that inspires you to create a special layout. Ideas are everywhere.

Inspiration is what drives us to continue to create. Scrapbookers are a wonderful, eclectic and delightful group of people. We derive such pleasure from assembling the pieces of our lives on lovely sheets of paper. Our basic desire is to share our lives – what we enjoy and what we feel inside – with those we love. Our passion for documenting the history of our lives is what truly makes this hobby so special. It is our inspiration that propels us forward to scrap page after page, album after album.

Have you ever experienced a time when you didn't feel so inspired, though? There are a variety of things you can do to get that inspiration back. Perhaps some of the ideas below can help you regain a renewed desire to crop those pictures once again. That scrapbook inspiration is still hiding somewhere inside of you. You just need a little outside stimulation to get it going again.

Try some of these ideas when you are feeling like your muses have disappeared:

Listen to some music. If you are scrapping a child's album, listen to a selection or two of music that your children like, such as: Kid's Bop, Dan Zanes or Disney Sing-a-longs. If you want to get inspired romantically, how about something from Enya, David Sanborn, Joseph Haydn or Andrea Bocelli. Set the mood with music that is associated with the topic you want to work on and let yourself slip into the emotions and sensations that the music brings forth in you.

Grab a good book. Choose something that arouses the emotions and feelings that you are wanting to inspire. If you are doing an album about babies, pick up a copy of "The Twelve Gifts of Birth". You can't get through that one with a dry eye. If you are working on a children’s album, take a look at a Children's Bible. The stories and pictures will provide a lot of thought-provoking ideas.

Have you noticed that the first two suggestions involved two of your five senses? That is because our memories are tied to our senses. How did it feel to get stitches when you were a child? Why is it that when we hear church bells, we either think about weddings or funerals? When you wear a certain perfume, does it make you think of a certain person or event?

When you are looking for scrapbook inspiration, indulge your senses. Let your mind wander in the moment and see what happens. You might find yourself pleasantly rewarded with a renewed desire to scrap a few pages – or maybe a whole album!

Really, scrapbook inspiration is all around us. These are a few ideas to get you started, but there are many more possibilities as well. Just try something out of your normal activities and let your imagination soar.

Being inspired to create is something many of us cannot help. We love what we do. If you find someone who needs a hint or a gentle push, share some of your ideas. We all have a unique way of seeing the world. Your hint may open a whole new world for someone else.
