Scrapbook Journaling

There are a wide variety of ways to approach scrapbook journaling. Since very few scrapbookers actually LOVE this aspect of the craft, it's important to understand it and find ways to make it easier.

The first thing we should really understand is the reason we journal our memories. Why is scrapbook journaling so important?

Each page has a story to tell – and those stories are a significant part of our lives.

It isn't so much about the words and making sure each one is right. It is really about the message you want to convey. It's about sharing the moments in the photograph(s) with those who will see your scrapbook. People love to look at photographs, but they truly enjoy understanding the story behind the photograph, too.

When you prepare to journal a scrapbook page, consider what is going on in the photographs and how the people who see those pictures are going to relate to what is happening. Remember that those photos will communicate a lot on their own, but they are unable to explain everything. Your words will help make those pictures more "real" to others.

Have you ever received a postcard from someone with the words on the back, "Wish You Were Here?" That is exactly what your photos and journaling together can make people wish. The words do not have to be eloquent. You don't have to write two paragraphs for every page, either. Some pictures only require a few words and a date.

Just journal

The main purpose most of us scrap our memories is because we want to stop time for a moment and capture the essence of the lives we have been given. It can be as amazing as dressing up for prom to as ordinary as washing the car. All of it matters, though. All of it defines a life well lived.

The photos in your scrapbook stop time. You, however, must capture the essence of the moment in your words. Use a few words, jot down a quote or write a letter to share your thoughts and feelings, but put it in writing. No one can do that part for you.

Scrapbook journaling explains what the photos cannot. It is an essential element of any scrapbook.

Express your emotions, your thoughts and your feelings in your scrapbook journaling. It makes your books so much more meaningful. Sure, the date is important and don’t forget that, but it is the words that capture the spirit of the date and explain why that date is important.

Now when you think of scrapbook journaling, you will have a better understanding of it's true importance in this hobby. Hopefully, the words will flow easily for you and you will enjoy the process of journaling even more than ever before.
